Pacific Sustainable Shipping

Pacific Sustainable Shipping is an advanced power sail solution for ocean shipping. This project is comprised of two main segments for early adoption, refinement, and expansion. Like large wind farms positioned in areas with strong consistent winds, our ships will operate in strong wind areas to provide fuel and manning reduction.
Industrial Wind Power – The implementation of land based wind turbines has been extremely successful, and is predicted to become the top renewable energy producer in 2018. In comparison, wind energy over the ocean is stronger and more consistent and, for this reason, sail powered shipping has a future.
Today a movement is under way to develop new clean energy solutions but many of these efforts are not practical for wide spread adoption. Pacific Sustainable Shipping is based on harnessing wind energy with proven conventional structures for long lasting cost effective operation. The two highest costs for ocean shipping are fuel and crew costs. Our methods will significantly reduce these.
Shipping to Hawaii – US ocean shipping to Hawaii is handled with containerships traveling between the West Coast and Honolulu. The freight is then either used on Oahu or shipped to other islands. This system has created a high cost of living which can be crippling for economic growth. Conventional shipping methods have been crucial for making Hawaii what it is today but new opportunities are blowing in the wind. Hawaii is blessed with trade winds 70% of the time, and a growing economy that could greatly benefit from reduced shipping costs.
The Power Sail Solution – A sail powered towing vessel used on shipping courses with strong prevailing winds is the key to this project. While on-tow, ships will see fuel reduction of up to 100%. Before entering port, ships will disengage and enter port independently. The towing vessel will then sail back up wind to meet the next ship. Freighter ships will also travel upwind independently. This way the power sail solution never impedes operation at port or while traveling up wind. By implementing this wind power solution, we will create a viable business alternative to reduce fuel consumption, and help shipping companies transition into a new clean energy economy.
