Hey Everyone, I’d like to share one of my projects for exercise. A few years ago, I moved from Hawaii to Seattle Washington and I was having a hard time staying in shape. In Hawaii, you’re never fare from the beach. The thing I missed most about Hawaii was the warm salty water so I started dreaming about a personal pool house. Unfortunately, most pools are super expensive. Then one hot summer day, I took a dip at a friend’s pool and was amazed to find out they used a saltwater system. I had always thought that harsh pool chemicals where needed, but not with the saltwater system. The only additive needed was salt.
I was pleased to find out that the pump was only $150 so I bought one along with a small above ground pool. I setup a tent around the pool and started swimming in April with a wet-suit since the water and air temp were between 50 and 60 degrees. At this time, I started researching water heating methods. Solar was one option but not in the winter. Gas and wood heat could be used but that seemed like a hassle. Electric pool heaters cost thousands but then I found an electric on demand water heater for $100 and set it up with a heavy gauge electric cord. For the last 6 months, I’ve been swimming at home every day and feel amazing! Cold weather is coming soon so I wrapped the pool with space age insulation and hope to keep swimming through winter.
